Now that there is much confusion and controversy surrounding the effectiveness of diet shakes, it is often important to first get clear on how they work, and how to best approach them.
Protein shakes have two major ingredients, whey, and soy, which come from cow’s milk or soybeans. The powdered substance is mixed with water and sometimes added with other items depending on the manufacturer, and then used as a meal replacement or weight loss supplement. Some protein powders contain hemp seeds, which are similar to chia seeds, which also provide dietary fiber and protein.9 While hemp seeds provide the same benefits as chia seeds, they are nowhere near as beneficial and should only be used in moderation.
